Protecting The Oceans At Rio+20

- Almost no one is in charge of the high seas – they are over-fished and under protected.
- 85% of global fish stocks are fully exploited or worse. This is the highest percentage on record and means that only 15% of stocks can withstand increased fishing.
At the Rio+20 summit next month, it looks increasingly likely that oceans will be the success story of the conference. There is real momentum building to protect the oceans – and as they make up a whopping 70% of the planet – that is good news.
